Hermit Crab Care Question from Email: Stress coat as a dechlorinator?

Jeremy asks:

I’m a new crab(s) owner and did a lot of research before I bought my crabs. In the past I had fish in my aquarium and already had a bottle of new stress coat; seeing that this stuff was not cheap and I had read that you could use this to dechloriate the water i have been using it for my crabs drinking water. I mixed the appropriate amount in a one gallon water jug and pour it out as needed. I read on this site on the care page NOT to add this in the drinking water, have I been doing my crabs harm or is it ok? I don’t want to hurt my crabs so I would like your advise.

Wimblee says:
You absolutely should NOT be putting stress coat in the drinking water.
You can buy a regular dechlorinator that also removed chloramines at Wal mart. The bottle is just under $5.00 and will last for years.

Jeremy asks:
I have another question, the glass on the inside of my tank collects alot of moisture, so much you can’t see in very well. Is there anything I can do to stop it from collecting on the glass or should I just leave it alone?

Wimblee says:
The condensation in itself is not a concern. That is a result of the inner tank being warmer than the outer walls. The thing you need to be aware of is the growth of mold or mildew if the condensation is persistent. Also make sure it is not causing your humidity to climb out of the safe zone.
