Triops Germany is reporting a sudden and HUGE delay with his shipments of hermit crabs to the U.S. and Canada over the past two months. My first shipment was the first delay he experienced but it has continued to worsen since then. Christian is switching to a different shipper in hopes of getting faster clearance through customs as well as insurance coverage for the loss of hermit crabs in the event customs holds them so long that they die.
So years ago when the exotic hermit crabs stopped appearing in stores I heard it was due to jack asses using animal imports to smuggle drugs into the U.S. Looks like that is STILL happening. This is probably why Customs is holding our hermit crabs for so long, especially if they have seen an increase of shipments coming in.
